How do I clean battery leakage?
How can I clean alkaline battery leakage out of the camera? I have a PowerShot A530.

I use rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol and Q-tips.

Oh, and one other tip is to get a very soft tooth brush, preferably one of those one with the uneven bristles.
Those kind of ones that you get for free on the airplanes are perfect, so if you see something like that in a dollar store, that'd be the one. I wouldn't be using an Oral-B brush as you might brush off something from a circuit board.
Then for those areas that are suborn, you can soak a Q-tip and then press the Q-tip on the area to clean to help the alcohol soak in. Then you can use the tooth brush to gently brush away the debris and not get cotton stuck to anything.

A little trick is to use a rubber eraser if it won't come off. I personally use a rubber cleaning wheel on a dremel and it makes short work of it.
Careful with an eraser with camera gear though, you don't want to get that on your sensor.

White Vinegar!
I find white vinegar works significantly better at neutralizing and removing battery leakage!
Put some white vinegar on a Q-tip, and gently scrub down the affected areas.
You can HEAR the sizzle of the alkaline being neutralized by the vinegar!
Once it's clean, THEN use rubbing alcohol to clean off any remaining residue. 😁
*Edited: Misused the word "Acid" where "Alkaline" should have been used!

One comment. It's battery alkaline that leaks. Opposite of acid. Which iz why vinegar(acid) dissolves the leakage.
@nest2g Oop, my bad! Thanks for catching me on that! Accuracy is important! I've been caught on that a few times hahah, but the ol' lizard brain keeps instinctively saying "acid". Old habits die hard, I suppose! I'll fix the post. 😁
I find that a good first step is vinegar. Dissolves alkaline battery leakage almost completely right away.
Sand off corrosion remaining with fine sandpaper of a nail file or scrape with hobby blade. Clean with alcohol. Protect with WD 40 on a swab to help protect from corrosion on metal contacts.
