Laptop not turning on

My laptop was working fine last night and I put it on my table before bed and when I woke up it didn't want to turn on. I thought it was out of charge so I checked by holding down, no indicator. I thought the brightness might be too low, no result. I connected the charger and it charged. But it did not turn on. I clicked the caps lock no light tried turning on again no result. Help please.

Does it sound like the fan is spinning when you press the power button, do you hear a chime too?

If you do, and the caps lock is not lighting up, it is not passing POST, which will most likely be a logic board issue. If it is not doing anything, try @mayer suggestion. If it boots when the charger is plugged in, after disconnecting or reconnecting the battery, it will narrow the issue down to the keyboard, trackpad cable or trackpad.

First see if you can zap the PRAM. Hit the start button. hold down the P, R, option and command keys. Let it tone twice, then let up.

That failing:

Disconnect the battery from the logic board. Press and hold the power on button for five seconds.

Plug the battery back in and connect the mag-safe adapter. It should spontaneously start.

That might be a bad keyboard which means that the power button isn't working either

@mayer might be right though, just saying because I don't u think that I am bugging in. Just trying to help.

@sherlock_holmes don't replace stuff if it just looks bad. Parts like the keyboard can be tested simply by plugging it in, instead of ripping out the old (possibly working) keyboard and removing the rivets.

@mayer's suggestion is good, since it will check to see if the keyboard is working. If it boots using his 2nd method, the issue will be with the keyboard or the connection to the keyboard through the trackpad cable or trackpad.

well yeah obviously. I was just throwing an idea out
