Private mode pattern not workign after latest system update

Samsung Galaxy S7. (not Edge)

After the latest update, my pattern does not work. My guess is because the last version allowed for two-step patterns and now only one-step is allowed. e.g. let's say my pattern was a capital "T". I would first swipe across, then remove my finger and swipe down. That worked for a year.

Now when I swipe across and lift my finger, it says "Failed to Enable Private Mode".

Private mode is only set up with a pattern. No fingerprint.

What can I do to fix this?
