Jay Windon , If you are noticing coolant level going down, have the cooling system pressure tested to determine if there is an internal/external leak that could cause issue. Stalling issues can be caused by numerous things, bad sensors TPS, MAP, MAF, IAC, O2, failing knock senor, faulty injectors, dirty throttle body, EGR valve, major vacuum leak, failing fuel pump, bad ignition, bad distributor, plugged catalytic converter, etc.etc.. As a first step have the car scanned for trouble codes as it may identify the exact problem. Some of the auto parts suppliers offer free code reading like Pepboys, Nappa, Advanced auto parts, etc and some of the guys are very knowledgeable and may have seen the issue often and put you on the right track or see if one of your buddies have one to lend. Some time's when it is intermittent stalling a technician may have to plug in a good quality scanner that is able to read live data and test drive while watching the different sensor/computer function to determine fault. Link below is a Nissan forum link that discusses and trouble shoots your issue. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

I would now looking back on the issue and the fix if faced with this problem again go straight to the fuel pump. I found the pump working off and on and the tank full of rust and sludge. I cleaned it all out replaced the pump and the vehicle has not had one issue since.

I have had this problems with my Nissan Maxima 1998

the car wound just shut off…

after having the car Dealer tested it was the ignition coils and the Mass Airflow sensor.

I would not recommend going cheap with sensitive engine parts like this.

I had another mechanic put in a cheap Mass Airflow sensor and is just cost me more money

in the long run.

All the best

Christopher

Just put it in neutral (or depress the clutch pedal) and coast to a stop. If possible pull to the shoulder and re-start the car. Steering and braking will still work, you just have to push harder because you lose the power assist. DO NOT turn the key to the off position when you are still moving. This will lock the steering wheel.

You may have a problem with the computer module that controls the ignition

I know not to turn the key to off and it is an automatic transmission,So neutral is what i use to coast but yesterday it would not start until after 20 minutes of cooling down. then would run great for about 5 mins then shut down again.

Check fuel injectors. Or check on the ignition coils. What's happening is when they get hot they're not functioning and you are not running on all cylinders. When it engine gets hot when your cylinders are misfiring
