Booting and freezing issues

Hello everyone. I have a Dell Inspirion 7000 series - 7737 Laptop in my repair shop. The clients could not get the laptop to boot. ( that was due to damaged o.s. install ). I am able to boot the laptop 50% of the time running windows 10 pro. the other 50% it freezes. Also once the system is booted it runs at about 90 - 100 % disk full. Does anyone have some solutions to this problem other than stoping the search, anti virus, running check disc etc. I am not thinking this is a software issue but i could be wrong. Any Advice would be great.

PS seems to be a big issues with these modeles. Also this was origonal installed with 8.1 pro

If you have a Hirens Ultimate Boot CD 10.4 available, run the HDD Regenerator as well as a HDD Stress Test and Memory test, it does sound like a faulty HDD but I may be wrong. Remember to change the boot device to legacy in the BIOS to access Hirens 10.4.

Hope this helps

So I replaced the 5400 HDD with a 7200 HDD with no luck. I then Installed an SSD drive with windows 10 pro and the laptop is working better than ever ( according to the owner) it would appear that the original HDD is defective however passes all it's stress tests.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Awesome :D glad you came right, like they say a SSD a day keeps the clients away and happy :P SSD's are amazing things

You should run the built in diagnostics and do thorough test of memory and disk. If the freezing happens that often then the Dell tests should catch the problem if it is memory or disk. If the hardware tests good then try running Windows in safe mode, you will have to start Windows and select reboot into safe mode to make it happen. If Windows is stable in safe mode then check the drivers to make sure they are up to date and for Windows 10.

Cant access the factory dell diagnostics, or boot option, they are all blocked in the bios with explination marks. Im thinking it might be a motherboard issue.

Have you tried to update BIOS? There are also 3rd party diagnostics that are available, Winternals and BART should still be available.

Having a hard time completing the bios upadate. ( Keeps freezing before it completes)

Have you tried to boot with a bootable USB drive? If it can boot then the hardware is good just a problem with the OS.

How did you update the BIOS? Unable to boot my Dell to Windows.

It's not a hardware specific issue as all tests pass. I can run Windows setup without it freezing - just wish Windows would load!

Update - can run about 64% of Windows update.

I think it's driver related. Anyone knows what gets installed at around 64%?
