Movie mode not available?

I have a Nikon J1. Mode dial works for all except the "movie mode" . When i turn it to the movie mode, it doesnt indicate it on the screen. If i press the record button, a message shows up saying "The movie-record button an not be used in this mode". Is there a way to hard reset the camera? Ive reset the settings but its still the same.
