Ipad not turning on; stuck in charging symbol during ios 11 update

Hello friends,

Yesterday morning, I have to experience a weird behavior of my ipad mini2. Day before yesterday night my ipad mini 2 was at 12% charge and I was trying to install the ios 11 (developer beta version), the download of the software happened in less than 10 mins and since my ipad was connected to a wall adapter, the system allowed to install the software (even though the charge is 12% but still connected to wall adapter).

I was seeing that the update was taking almost 20 mins with the progress bar showing the loading. I fell asleep and woke up after 4 hours to see that my ipad was showing an apple logo and was bit hot. (Not too hot rather).

After that I removed the cable and it showed me the connected to charger logo!!!

Block Image

Looked like battery drained, but I connected to the charger and the ipad was showing that the device is charging (black screen with battery icon in middle with red line at the base of the battery icon - the screen before the ipad starts)

Block Image

After 15 to 20 mins, the apple logo is appearing and AND STUCK AT THAT LEVEL AND MAKING THE DEVICE LITTLE HOT AS IT PROGRESSES and when removed, it is coming back to the connect to charger logo...

I do not want to have it charged for a very long time since not sure if it might affect the battery. I left the device untouched for a day and I even tried performing the above cases today morning and it is still the same.

I guess it should not be a hardware issue since, charging an ipad for 4 hours with device stuck at apple logo continuously (due to update interruption) should not affect the battery or charging IC for such a branded product like apple.

I cannot do DFU/Restore or do anything now since if I connect the device to macbook, it is showing the charging symbol in the ipad (black screen with battery icon in middle with red line at the base of the battery icon) and itunes and the mac is not detecting the device.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME TO GET BACK MY IPAD TO WORKING CONDITION PLEASE?

I don't have a Mac what to do

Please help me. You r my only hope

It doesnt really matter if it is a mac or windows/pc or a laptop unless u have the latest version of itunes installed. Leave ur ipad/iphone undisturbed for a day (not even charge the device).

After a day, turn ur pac/laptop on and open itunes(latest verison) and try connecting the device. It will detect in less than 15 mins.. trust me it shld work 99.99%

Contact the Beta Team and tell them the problem.

In the future I'd advise not installing any Beta software unless you have a genuine need for doing so or you actually are a developer. Always be prepared before installing any Beta software that you can restore your device. This type of software used to be reserved for Apple professionals. i would install ii on a drive or machine that could be throw in the trash.

Thank You Mayer! But do you think my ipad is affected with hardware issue (like battery or Charging IC) because of trying to upgrade to beta iOS11?

par

No, you just hit on a pet peeve of mine. I don't think Apple gives sufficient warning about Beta software. They let the public do a lot of the work for them finding these bugs. They are released to early. When Jobs ran things the beta releases were to just polish things.

I had the same problem. After trying all the chargers & cables that I have, I plugged the charging cable into the USB port of a computer and my iPad started to charge normally. It charged to 100% after a while. I am enjoying iOS 11.

Have had to do a hard reset on my iPad Air three times in five days now to get it off the black screen with faint grey spinner after a night on charge. This morning, it would only show the battery flat screen (after being plugged into the charger all night). Wouldn't subsequently charge with the wall charger at all. Plugged it into my iMac. Took iTunes at least 10min to recognise it (went away and left it for awhile). It has now come back to life, on 3% charge, but still won't charge on any wall charger. Have tried restart and hard reset; no go. Looks like it's now unusable & I'll have to restore back to a previous version until the next beta comes out unfortunately.

After connecting to a PC. can we use charger again

par

Yes you can... but ensure you dont user wall charger till your device is detected in itunes

par

Oops I used it

To charge the iPad has earned, first you need to connect the lightning to the ipad connector, and then plug the charging into the socket.

Had problem of iPad not charging past 1% and would turn on then off again. My daughter had loaded a game and started having this problem, as well as leaving multiple apps open and not closing them. After charging overnite, it still had only 1%. I was able to get it to open long enough to force close all the apps before it shut down again. But, once the apps were closed, the iPad began to charge past the 1%. We'll see if this continues, but it might help if you can get the iPad to open long enough to close all apps. Hope this helps!

You cannot downgrade to 9.3.1 since this version of iOS has been stopped signing by Apple long ago, better you do a manual Update to latest ios (guess it is 10.3.1)...

I had the same problem, BUT:

First connect the lightning to your iPad, after that the USB in the power socket. This worked for me!

Sir, a USB cable isn't sending any data unless connected at both ends. There are two copper strands critical for data transfer. When the Data+ from the iPad and the Data+ from the Mac connect, and the Data- and data- connect on both devices, it forms a link. Until then, either device doesn't know that a USB cable is plugged into it, unless they have a physical switch inside the port that would detect the cable, but that isn't the case.

It doesn't matter at all which end you plug in first, the reaction is the same.

par

I need to correct this reply by saying cable plugged in to the device before plugging in to adapter DOES have an effect. Firstly, a google search will show this phenomenon is known and the recent ios11 beta program has seen this solution resolve issues as it did with ios10 . Secondly you forget that lightning cables carry a chip that handles basic identification plus other minor tasks include plug orientation. When you have a direct connection to the phone in place then there is an established connection & voltage from the phone to one 'side' of the lightning chip and the negotiation is done on the other side when you plug it in. In the reverse scenario the lighting chip is pre-powered by the adapter and the cable does the negotiation with phone on the phone side of the chip. This is not a raw connection. It may not be like Thunderbolt but it does have a basic chip doing a little bit of management. Check the Lightning entry on wikipedia & see the connector schematic.

It's strange but it works. Thanks.
