iPad shows battery and plug icon when already plugged.

I have a iPad 4 to work on, the digitizer has already been replaced. The problem is, the iPad shows the red empty battery with the lightning cable at the bottom. Even when it is plugged, it still ask to plug the device to charge it. I tried to go into recovery mode on iTunes and it won't work at all, iTunes won't recognize the iPad. Anyone has an idea what could the problem be, I would like to try everything possible before needing to remove the digitizer.

Here is a picture:

I get this even when it is plugged which is weird because it should only show the battery and not the cable. Also, the screen flash every 5 sec before going back to the battery/lightning cable icon.

There is something new, now when I plug the lightning cable in the charging port, nothing happens. I guess this could be the battery or the charging port.

I would inspect the lightning connector. My guess is that there is either debris in the port, or some of the pins are bent/missing. If the former, you can generally clean it out with a small instrument, just be careful not to damage the pins in the process!

If the latter, you're more than likely looking at replacing the lighting connector

Here's the Guide for that replacement, if you feel up to the task.

I did inspect it, all the 8 pins seems to be ok. I guess I will need to open it up to replace the part then.

If the pins appear to be ok, you might have luck just reseating the battery/lightning connector. It's not a guarantee, and I'd definitely have the replacement part on hand so you don't have take it apart twice (or leave it open in a "safe" spot.)

Thankfully, from looking at the guide, you should be able to attempt both of those steps without taking the thing all the way apart.

I took the iPad apart and looked at the connector, it seems it needed a reseating because as soon as I pressed on it, I heard a *click* and now the iPad is charging fine. My guess is that the connector got partially disconnected when the iPad was dropped the first time, before the digitizer replacement. Problem solved!

Charging port is the most likely issue. try cleaning it out first, if that doesn't work you will need to open it up. Depending on your soldering skills, it may be a difficult replacement, as the port is soldered by several pads on the motherboard. There is also the possibility of a bad battery, or the U2 IC causing the issue.

About the charging port, I could be wrong but I think it is only plugged with a connector instead of being soldered to the board.

You are correct, I was thinking of the Air, I'm sorry.
