A 17" LCD Display for an Apple computer produced between 2001 and 2004.

7 questions Voir tout

Studio Display has gone black.

Power's getting to my M7649 Display, from my G5, but the screen went black a few days ago. I got another M7649 display from a friend and it works fine. Can mine be fixed? is it the inverter? Screen seems black, not dim.

Thanks,

Henry

If you look closely at the display (maybe at an angle) you may be able to see a slight image (like a shadow) if so your backlight has failed and would need replacement.

Thanks Wizbang FL! Appreciated.

I plugged it back into the G5, turned off all the lights in the room, fired up the computer and looked for a glimmer of an image, or shadow. Nada. Ziltch. Pure darkness ... except for the 'on' light in the lower right corner of the frame, of course. Holding the screen brightness button brought the button to life, while it was pressed, but nothing more.

So ... I'm now certain that the display is imageless.

Still looking to allow this display to play as it has. If there's a fix, and it won't cost me an arm or leg for the part(s), I'll try it.

Regards,

Henry

Before replacing the backlight, you might want to take a look at the inverter that controls the backlight. Here's the Apple recall on it and how to fix it: http://macguild.org/display-repair.html
