Why wont my ps4 show up on my tv?

My ps4 hasn't been working for two days. I have tried 3 different HDMI cables, two tv's and it still wont work. Safe mode isn't coming up but my tv does recognize its connected to a playstation. Their is also sound coming through my headphones when connected to my controller. The light shows itstarted properly (blue light then white light). what should I do?

When you say safe mode isn't coming up, have you attached your controller to the PS4 via a usb cable? As that is the only way to get safe mode to start.

I had the exact same problem. I unplugged the ps4 for 24 hours and connected the hdmi into another port before turning it on. It worked! I then powered it off and then connected the cable back into the original port and it still worked. Not sure if it had something to do with the amount of time I had it unplugged or if it was switching ports.

par

My question is, my ps4 does this but only for one tv that I own, I’ve hooked up other things to the tv via the same HDMI cable and port and they work perfectly, I’ve also hooked up my ps4 to another tv in my room with no problems via HDMI so I know it’s not my ps4 either

par

Mine suddenly started doing this also !!

I have the same problem, but you have solved the problem.

Sounds like an HDMI port problem. This is very common with Ps4's, especially the older ones. Sometimes you can shine a flashlight into the port and see the bent pins. If the port looks good it can also be the encoder chip on the motherboard.

if it's the encoder chip how do we fix it?

par

To fix them you have to heat them until the solder melts, then place the new one in its place

par

How do you fix the bent pins ?

It doesn't work because it beeps twice and then turns off

Ok so, I had the exact same problem, when you unplug your PS4 HDMI and turn and hold the PS4 power button for the second beep, it resets the PS4s resolution to 480p... chances are at one point or another you accidentally set the resolution to a high one than your tv can support... how I did that I have no idea and you problem don’t either. Your PS4 will then give you a menu to select an option from(one of them being adjust screen resolution). Hit that option and it will then prompt you to auto or manually set it... I just did it automatically and presto, it was set back to 1080p for the better quality. I instantly understood what was going on, if this doesn’t work for you, then sorry to tell you dude, but you’re gunna have to take it to Sony. Thanks for the help!!

It sounds like it could be your HDMI port. Just to factor out the TV have you tried testing on an entirely different TV?

My own Ps4 would work on different smaller 32” TVs but wouldn’t work on my smart 55” inch Samsung tv . I’m so tired of this issue . Someone help .. I’ve tried different means to set it to work on my own tv but it wouldn’t just work but would work perfectly well on some other TVs . Took my tv to a game house and connected one of the ps4 game there and it worked well with my tv but mine wouldn’t but would work on other TV.

I had this issue and tried restarting my ps4 over and over and checked all ym cables were in correct. didnt figure out the issue was with my tv until i noticed my xbone wasnt working either, so after turning my tv off and on a couple times both ps4 and xbone are connected. so maybe try restarting your tv a couple times or work out if your tv is having issues with all things plugged in

I know this is a old thread but I think there are two ports on the back of the PS4: one hdmi in and one hdmi out. Check that you haven’t plugged it into the hdmi in.

I have the same issue. Tried different TV, hdmi cables and more. I left my ps4 unplugged a whole night (yesterday) and then I connected it with the hdmi and power cable again today. It works, the picture is back.

PS. My ps4 recently got updated too.

Hope it works!

I solved this problem by switching to a different HDMI cable. (The old cable still functions with a DVD player, but fails with the PS4 or another DVD player I own.)

Unplug the PS4, make sure your controller is plugged in, then plug it back in and turn it on via PlayStation button.

Seems the issue is reading the hdmi and actually displaying whats connected . My only fix was to unlpug the ps4 plug it back in and insert a disc . Course it will have to restore hardrive but just dont interrupt the restore . Not sure of exact the cause but hope this helps.

Actually im reading such coments on different forums and watching videos on youtube scince four days and im mentally sick that here many of stupids who post their videos regarding o no singnal issue they says wait for 7 seconds and even we are asking that if we dnt get safe mode then what to do therw is no one to answer then they will repeat the same story changinging cables hdcp to 1.4 but where to fo this when not getting safe mode how we can ps4 not . And most of the latest china smart tvs they dnt have hdmi enhanve options to chnage mode or settings . Suhd tvs automatically pick pixel information according to the source . I have same issue ps4 working on my other tv but not with my suhd smart tv . As i have found that u have to unchek hdcp options first its necessary . And second that i have got that there is no ossue with ur tv actually ps4 is not matching resulution with your tv so we have to need to attach ps4 with the same tv as we have so our ps4 can set his settings abd then attach it bavk to ur tv . I hope it will work . And if thee is another way let us know

I just purchased an ASUS gaming monitor. And began to have this problem. My theory is the monitors setting and frame rates are too advance for the PS4 to keep up with. So I put my ps4 into safe mode and changed the resolution from “Automatic” to 1080p and now my ps4 is showing up.

hope this helps

Hard boot (i.e., unplug). Of course the PS4 doesn’t like it when you do this and will scold you upon coming back up. Anyway I think that has worked every time, but alternatively (and I think it’s a good idea) after you unplug it you could hook up a USB between the controller and unit and you can start it in safe mode. Of course I didn’t DO anything in safe mode but poke around, then unplugged my controller from the unit and let it restart again. Then it worked. It would be nice if Sony would figure out what’s going on, but I suspect it is a hardware issue such as tired video card or other component. My unit is probably near 6 or 7 years old. Some posts have said you can have twisted pens in your HDMI port, but my unit has not been unplugged in 18 months, so that’s not the problem.

I had this issue after a recent PS4 software update. My TV is a Samsung smart TV (model UE39F5300AK). The screen would flick from grey to black at a regular ~1 second interval (the audio also cuts in and out when this happens). Same for all HDMI ports on the TV. The PS4 worked fine on both a different Samsung TV and a HDMI monitor. Tried 3x different cables all known to be working, didn’t help. Safe mode on PS4 didn’t help. Factory reset of the TV didn’t help. Narrowed it down to the TV specifically being at fault, by leaving the PS4 in place and swapping only the HDMI cable to a monitor - the PS4 output worked fine on the monitor. I eventually fixed this by going into the smart features settings on the TV and disabling the AnyNet+ feature (I think this is some “helpful” Samsung feature to find devices). After disabling AnyNet+ and restarting the TV and console (initially in safe mode, although I don’t think this was necessary), the PS4 works again “like a magic”. Thanks Samsung for wasting two hours of my life on this nonsense. Hope this helps someone else avoid similar frustration.

Oh I forgot to mention, I also checked the HDMI port on the PS4 for damage, but it looked absolutely fine, no obvious damage, bent pins, or wobbling etc.

such bad luck, I bought one for my son, worked when I plugged it in, played for three hours, turned it off to go to bed, next day turned it on and nothing! intermittent music but thats it. no way of starting in safe mode, didn’t move or touch anything since day before, guy I bought it from tries to tell me its the cable even though it worked the day before . gutted as he won’t give me my money back. if it worked yesterday why not today? frustrating. don’t fancy a costly repair, tried all what I read except new cable, but as I said it worked yesterday fine. just a black screen flickering . how about if I drop it from the third floor! got scammed last month buying one from gumtree and didn’t receive it, my boy has tears and I can’t go out and buy another, thats £350 spent so far on two machines in a month and still can’t play. it would have to be new now but £600+!! thats a lot to folk out in all its entirety , sick as a pig

I know this is not an answer, but my PS4 isn’t working as well, I tried changing the resolution, booting it up in safe mode, 3 HDMI cables, 2 TVS, and a monitor, none of them worked. I don’t know if my HDMI Thing is broken because I don’t know what bent pins are. Please help.

I unplugged everything for a while. Put HDMI in different slot in tv. Turned everything on. Put ps4 in safe mode. I chose the update software option. I updated this same latest version recently, but decided to update again. System updated and reset.

Put it in safe mode again. Chose change resolution. And automatic option finally came up. It never did before unplugging everything and updating software. I had no choice but to choose automatic. Resolution wasn’t as good. Put ps4 in safe mode again. Change resolution again. This time I was able to change it to 1080p. And back to normal. Guess this is now one of those wiggle and jiggle the door handle to open it type things. Trashy electronics.

Experienced this issue multiple times and these following steps seem to remedy the situation every single time.

  • Make sure to have both your tv and PS4 (PRO) powered off.
  • Make sure to have the HDMI-cable not connected to your PS4
  • Power-on your tv and set it to the corresponding HDMI-channel
  • Press and hold your PS4 (PRO) power button and wait for the second beep to occur (this will enable safe mode)
  • After you hear the second beep, connect your HDMI cable to your console
  • Safe Mode will then come online, make sure to check for new updates (i found out that this issue tends to come up everytime Sony pushes a new software update).
  • This update should remedy the situation, the console will most likely boot up a few times afterwards. Don’t cut the power on this boot sequence.
  • Afterwards the problem should be resolved. If not, go back into safe mode and check your resolution. Put this on 720p just to be sure -> you can always change it back to your preferred resolution when the console is fixed via Options -> Sound & Screen.

Hope this helps someone out there. Cheers!

So I went about 5 hours last night trying to figure out what it was. Safe mode 20 times tried every option except the factory reset. Caught a couple of times lost the signal right afterwards. Switched to the TV in my bedroom ( living room sony Bravia bedroom Samsung whatever model it is) same thing no signal unless boot to safe mode. I got fed up and was ready to people's elbow the %#*@ thing when I unplugged everything - and I mean everything- , from the hdmi on both the TV and the system to the power cords on the systems and the walls. Left it like that for about 20 minutes. Plugged everything back up and works like it never broke. Give it a shot might help. Unplug everything off the wall and systems, go listen to Britney spears for half an hour, walk your dog, go down the pornhub rabbit hole, whatever keeps your head the !&&* away from that stupid system and then plug everything back in and start it. Hopefully this works for you because it did for me. Now I'm downloading a software for the last 2 hours.
