Changed display and now no power?

We changed the display on a Macbook A1534 after doing so the device will not turn on with power button or multikey softrest options. We feel heat on the bottom of the device from the batteries but it will not turn on.

Tried it with the old display? A bad LCD panel from factory can short PP3V3_S0 or PP5V_S0 to ground, which would prevent the MacBook from booting.

Did you press the button next to the battery before disconnecting the trackpad cable, so the system detect light on the logic board goes off? Not doing this has a chance of killing the board. Is this light coming on with the new display and is it getting in an S4 state (trackpad clicking)?

Check to make sure you haven't knocked anything off the board if you have tried the old display and the above is fine.

We had two of these units one with a broken display. The other with a good display but crackling speakers. So we took the display from the one with the crackling speakers which was for sure working no issues. We then put it on the one with the bad display. In the process we disconnected the battery with the battery tool ifix sells before removing any flex cables. I don't think we pressed that button next to the battery but i assumed disconnecting the battery all together would give the same result.

Where would this indicator light be located?

@cgarner as long as the battery was disconnected before disconnecting the trackpad cable (the one going from the bottom half to the top half of the MacBook), that's fine.

Try the old display to make sure it's not the cause. Is the trackpad clicking fine too, since this will only click on these models when in an S4 state (meaning it is either on, or in a "nearly on" power state). If you have the same issue with the old display, you have a logic board issue.

If it feels hot, it's likely booting but isn't showing display, so this was either damaged whilst installing or the battery wasn't properly disconnected when unplugging or connecting this.

@cgarner this is the light next to the battery connector, on the logic board. This is yellow and lights up white when power is connected. I also assume you have connected the charger, since this model will only boot with the charger connected first, after reconnecting the battery? It won't boot for the first time unless the charger is plugged in first.

We have tried the charger still no boot. I am not there at the moment to check the light howeveri dont think i saw any lights at all when checking it earlier. Based on what you've said and others it looks as if its board related. We will need to send it to our board support team. Ill keep the post updated with progress in case others have this issue in the future.

update repair declined not able to send the board out so i wont know the reason unless i receive another that gives the same issue.
