Vizio E500i-B1 TV occasionally doesn't power up to Visio logo

There are times when I turn on the TV (E500i-B1) that the white light power indicator lights and then fades away and the VIZIO logo never appears.....But then other times the TV powers up just fine........to make matters worse sometimes if I simply move the TV to a new room it works fine for awhile...........based on some voltage checking I replaced the power board but ultimately didn't make a difference. There was one time when it didn't work, I took off the back panel and the TV now worked.

Simple things remaining to consider include:

1) A loose component? I saw no evidence for a loose component nor blown, damaged component.

2) A bad receptacle in the TV for my power cable?

.....A different power cable made no difference.

3) Not enough electrical juice getting to TV........but that seems unlikely since there are times the TV is fine and other devices work fine.

Hi @ddapdad ,

Don't know your TV but has it got a fixed power cord or one that you can plug into the back of the TV?

If it is a fixed cord perhaps it may be fractured near the plug end.

Disconnect the cord from the wall outlet and then use an Ohmmeter to test for continuity of the wires between the plug and the connection in the TV.

If OK test while flexing the cable near the plug end and note the meter reaction. If it moves then the wires may be fractured.

Is the power cord connected via a multi outlet powerboard to the wall outlet?

If so connect it directly to the wall outlet and see what happens.

have tried another power cord; no difference. I'm guessing the reading would be zero ohms?

connected directly to wall

I assume test cable at wall socket end while other end still plugged into TV, or just cable alone?

Hi @ddapdad ,

Yes the reading would be zero Ohms, but since you've tried a new cord that possibility has been eliminated as well as a possible powerboard problem since it is connected directly to a wall outlet.

I meant test the cable (if it was fixed - wire for wire from the plug end to the TV connection point) but since it is a plug into the TV type connection you could test the TV power inlet socket between the pins of the socket and the wiring on the board to ensure that the connection is OK and that there are no dry solder joints etc.
