iPhone 7 not turning on after screen replacement

Hello,

I recently replaced my screen on my iPhone 7. It won’t turn on. I’ve tried charging it and checking the cables. It recognizes it in iTunes. What can I do? Help!

Ok, so ran through some stuff. I replaced the old screen, nothing. So I did some research. Basically, I pulled an amateur move and forgot to unplug the battery.

Now, when one forgets to unplug the battery, one of three things will happen when continuting with a repair.

1. Your IC Backlight will fry when trying to connect the ribbons and you'll have to microsolder a new one(like $2 but a huge pain to do). When connecting the ribbons when the battery is connected allows the chance for the pins on the ribbon to mix match and create a bad circuit.

2. You'll have to do the screen replacement repair through and through WITH the battery disconnected form the start.

3. You've shorted more than the IC backlight out and would probably be better off biting the bullet and taking it to an Apple store.

I had luck doing the whole process over again with thorough ground technique, isopropyl clean hands, and a good ESD station/tools.

Good luck, and give us an update!

This ^. Always disconnect the battery. The other thing is the cable is fragile. You want to give it extensive care when connecting it and attaching the screws. Which is another thing to look at out for. Make sure the screws are in the right location, otherwise it may damage the phone and you'll need some board level repair.

Yeah. That’s probably it. Thanks. Question, where’s the backlight IC?

Also, I tried to plug it into iTunes. iTunes recognized it. Does that change or mean anything?

Hey John,

Sorry for the delay. School and work have kept me quite busy. Have you solved your problem yet? If the phone connects to itunes then you are probably in that "backlight IC fry" group. Do me a favor and turn your phone on and shine a light on the screen while looking at the screen from an angle. Hopefully you see a dim Apple logo. If you do, this is a back light issue now. Let me know what you find.

Same story. I put back the old screen and it worked. So what's wrong with the new lcd? Faulty?

par

If that is happening then in your particular case, it's a faulty new lcd
