Sudden Orange Wi-Fi Light - Wi-Fi Now Doesn't Show At All

I was just browsing on EBay and suddenly my wireless is disappeared and can't be found in the device manager or in the wireless connections screen...

My wireless button is orange and clicking it doesn't change it, all it does is put it to airplane mode.

It's not a Wi-Fi issue because I can connect in my other laptop and on my phone.

All that is showing in the Network Adapter of my Device Manager is ethernet (which works perfectly fine but I'd love to have my Wi-Fi back D: ), nothing that says Wireless, it legitimately was as if it never existed.

I tried:

1) Taking out battery and pressing power button for seconds, then putting back in and turning on. Still orange, still no Wi-Fi.

2) Using troubleshooting. Still orange, still no Wi-Fi.

I've tried some other things with the command prompt that I saw posted online on various forums, but I can't remember.

Does anyone have any further ideas to what I can do?

Please, please, please help!

Thank you!

My Laptop is HP ENVY dv6t-7300 CTO Select Edition Notebook PC

Hi @nameingname ,

Have you checked in Device Manager that the WLAN adapter is not listed under “hidden devices” for some reason? (go to Device Manager > View > click on show hidden devices)

If it is also not listed there then here’s a link to the service manual taken from this webpage.

Scroll to p.57 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the WLAN module. Check that the WLAN module card is seated properly into its’ connector i.e. remove and reinsert the card.

If it seems OK and re-seating it doesn’t fix the problem, check in BIOS whether there is an option to enable/disable the WLAN. (not sure if it is there or not). If there is a setting ensure that it is enabled.

I don’t know your laptop but on p.105 of the manual if describes how to access the system hardware diagnostics menu. Hopefully there is a test for the WLAN module.

It may be that the WLAN module has failed and you have to replace it. On p.57 you’ll find the part numbers for the various WLAN modules used in the different variants of your model series. Find the part number appropriate to your particular module (it should be printed on it) and then search online using the part number only in the search box of your browser to get results for suppliers of the part.
