Remove and clean rear LCD cover

The inside of the rear LCD cover on my Nikon D300 has become dirty - looks like road traffic film on a car window.

How do I get it off/open the case to clean it?

Note: The camera is hardly used and is always stored in its case - I suspect that whatever coating was applied at the factory has gone cloudy.

Look on page 19 of your owner’s manual.

Hold the camera firmly in one hand, and with a finger from the other hand, insert your finger nail under the lip of the bottom edge of the LCD cover and flick it away from the camera. It pops off easily.

Clean the LCD and the cover, then reapply starting with setting the cover at the top edge and levering it down so the bottom edge of the cover snaps into place at the bottom edge of the LCD. Done.

Give the cover another wipe with a lens cloth and you’re done.

Dear Mike.

Thank you for your reply.

I don’t think I explained the problem clearly enough. The dirt/film is not under the clip-on cover, but under the glued-on screen window itself.

It almost looks like the ‘road traffic film’ you get on the inside of a car windscreen.

Judging from the smeared appearance, I suspect it might have been an anti-fogging coating that you apply to face-masks.

It did not work.
