Should I give up on rice?

My phone dropped in the toilet,screen down Tuesday afternoon. I took it out immediately and it seemed fine. I place it screen down on the sink to wipe it off, I turned it over and the display wasn’t working. I could still hear notifications coming from my phone but i couldn’t see them. My finger touch worked as well. I was told by customer support to leave it in a well-ventilated area so I do. Fast forward to Thursday, still no response.I cant hear notifications anymore nor does the finger pad work, probably because it died.Today, I was told rice could still drain the water but it might not fix the phone. I had it in there since 9 this morning, should I just purchase another phone?

@samyeah

the myth of rice as a tool for any kind of immersion accident has long been laid to rest as totally bogus. Rice does not work. It is the equivalent of doing absolutely nothing.

The only way of getting anything accomplished with a phone that suffered damage like yours, is by removal of the battery as quickly as possible. No, it is not a good idea to try to turn it on, to charge it or to use it in any other way. This will increase the risk of short circuiting the phone. It needs to be completley disassembled and properly cleaned. One can use 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush or, and way better, to use an ultrasonic cleaning. After that it gets properly dried and reassemble with a new battery. All these steps are necesarry to ensure that your phone stands a chance to be resurrected. Even with all that there is still a chance it will never work again. At least give it a try.

Rice as a desiccant is an old wives tale. Even to get it to absorb two times its volume, you have to boil it.

People think it’s a desiccant because they’ve seen it in salt shakers in dinners in humid areas. It’s there to help break up salt clumps and because it will not pass through the shaker holes and it’s white.

Try rice as a Hail Mary, it’s inexpensive and if you’re lucky it might work. If not, you barely spent any money anyways. Best of luck!

EDIT:

@oldturkey03 is right, rice is totally bogus. Guess you’re getting a new phone.
