Why does my camera say ''to get started connect camera''

The Dell Latitude E6500 laptop PC was released in August 2008. The Latitude has a 15.4 inch screen with a 500 GB hard drive

Hi,

Has the camera worked before OK in the laptop?

What OS is installed in the laptop?

According to the service manual (scroll to p.25) for your laptop:

NOTE: The camera and microphone assembly is optional and may not have shipped with your computer if you did not order them

Also if you have the camera installed, the last driver supported by Dell was for Windows Vista, see image below of the driver taken from this webpage

Searching online reveals that the last OS to natively support the camera was Win 7 as the OS supplied the drivers not Dell.
