Is iMac11,2 (mid2010 i3 3.06) possible to change the cpu to i7?

Hi all,

I see that there is a lot of mid2010 i5 capable to upgrade to i7, but I can't find any post of i3 3.06 to i5 or i7.

Looking the socket, they are all the same (LGA 1156).

Is that possible ?

I've found this article, but it's about the 27" and not 21".

Guys, just found a article and the iMac 2011 are made to not work with another parts that were not sold by Apple. In other words, this thing of make upgrades on iMac's are close to stop.

@Patrick: Messed up? Yep. Surprising? Hardly. Unfortunately, this doesn't address the original question, which is about the processor. I do see what you meant, however. The thing is, Apple products are generally not designed for modification. The iMac is hardly an exception...bastards. :p

From my research, you should be able to upgrade to the processor to the 3.6GHz i5 (680) mentioned in the alternative-configuration spec, but I don't believe it would work for an i7 due to power requirements and a likely lock-out by Apple on the hardware itself.

I hope this helps!

it seems you can only upgrade your imac i3 mid 2010 21,5" to i5 680 processor. I'm looking for other information as I would do this upgrade, but i'm waiting a confirmation about that.

What about the quad core I5-760? Would the same power requirements put a downer on things? I´ve also looked at the dual core I5-680, and for reasons of power requirements, I´m inclined to believe that you simply can´t run a quad-core processor with that logic board.

(I bought the mid2010 base-line iMac three days before the 2011 got released, annoying..)
