Can't find where to plug in IR sensor cable

Replaced HD in MacMini late 2014 with SSD. Can’t find a place to plug in the IR Sensor cable. Looks like it should go under the board, but there’s nothing there. Some photos show a open box form, but not on this mother board. For now going to leave it unhooked and see if it runs?

I have torn them mini down again. I appears to me that the older boards had an IR connector on the MB. This board does not. It appears to me to be the connector that powers the power on light which no longer works. This light is part of the hd mount and points at the power on light. I've also looked at the power supply for a jack, but nothing found. The computer works fine so I will put it back together, again, and ignore the connector! I would add pictures, but can't find a way to post them?

@ldonj - I would hold off using your system as you'll end up cooking it! You snapped off the fans connection.

Checked the fan operation before I put the cover on. Good thought.

Did you get the fan connector re-connected?

I lost my connector but it looks like you can buy a new one on the cheap. 78171-0005 is the part number. DigiKey sells em for about $0.50 each + ~$5 shipping. Soldering it back to the board will be a chore. I will probably try a heat gun directly over it with aluminum foil protecting the surrounding area of the board. All this so I can get that fancy LED on the front of my Mac mini ;)

MAKE SURE you get the connector with five pins, not four. This part number is apparently used for both variants.

Now I see your plight! When you disconnected the LED/IR sensor you really did disconnect it the hard way! Compare these two images:

A good board

Carefully peel the base off of the cable connector half and then take a picture of the bottom side so we can see how the solder contacts look and post it here for us to see.

Sorry to disagree. It also happened to me . On this board there is no such connector. There are 2 tiny metal goldplates where the connector connects to the board.

I'm stuck here with the same problem. Any ideia?

Thanx

You got a bad board! If it's a replacement board.

As you can see in this guide Mac mini Late 2014 Logic Board Replacement You can see the connector At Step 12 and removed the cable in Step 17.

Are you sure you've got this model? The 2018 is very different.

Hi Leonard!

Did it work without connecting the IR cable?

Thanx

They work just fine without it.

Hi, what happens if you are not able to solder/put back the IR cable? Is it accurate that only the Power Light and the IR Sensor in front will be the only functionality lost?

par

How bad is yours? Take some pics so we can see.

par

Correct. It's the least-vital component of the Mac mini (assuming you don't use the IR sensor).

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem. The cable is channelled through the ssd enclosure with a connector but nothing on the board.

My Mac mini is running fine but no power light.
