How to repair Intex error 95 or 96 hot tub sensor?

I have error E95 or E96, before spending any money, I tried NTC sensor first, it worked for me.I removed the Plastic cover over the pump. There were two flow sensors which were easy to spot. They had shiny hex connections one on each side of the water flow.

I removed these with a box or small crescent wrench and clean the bronze tips of the sensors with a soft bristle wire brush. The tips of the sensors were copper and after six months to a year they build up corrosion. It doesn't take a lot to cause them to malfunction. You can easily spot the corrosion it's usually green in color on the sensor tips. After cleaning, thread these back in and put the cover back on the pump and try your heater. Be careful not to cross thread when re-installing these sensors. This worked for me without spending a time. If this doesn't work, you may have let the flow sensors go too long without cleaning and they/re damages. But don't fret. The sensors can be bought on line from ThermoMart (NTC sensor categories).They run $6.50 - $10.00 each. Intex will tell you need a $350.00 replacement pump. Don't fall for that. I'd try these two fixes first is your a brave do it yourself type person. Oh, and remember to unplug your pump from the power source before attempting this fix.I replace and wired the sensors in to the circuit, wrapped the sensor in electric tape and put it on top of the white plastic exit manifold (Not on the black heat Exchanger).The Spa has been running for hours with no error and the temp is slowly climbing all evening.What do you think about this sensor and other brands? which one is better?

You’re looking for a silver hex head with black wire coming out of it. There’s one on each side of the unit.

Appreciate the tip and found the corrosion and cleaned both sensors. One of them was corroded badly and going to replace both; purchased the SPP-H-10-1 used. Is the two that I need NTC10K-2 from thermomart? Thanks in advance.

par

Please search NTC10K-S-M10 in Thermomart. It is new product and fit for Intex sensor

Appreciate the response. I found that one of my thermo resistors was fully eroded, purchases hot tub used, using a 10k resistor I cut the eroded sensor away and placed the resistor in place tonlie to the pcb. The display would read 78degrees and could heat the hot tub to 94 degrees. Anything above that get the 95 or 96 error. I then replaced the 10k with a 6k resistor and the display shows 104, swapping the plugs on control board, heating to 100 degrees. Ordered new sensors and using the resistor as a bypass till the new sensor arrives.

It is fit and the thread size is M10 but don’t forget to use sealant tape

The new sensors fixed it. Much more substantial than the Intek ones. Don't wasre your time cleaning them. Temporary fix if it even works. The covering on the Intex sensors is soft, wears away. These other ones are all metal. Should last forever.

Yes, old sensors have a gasket. New ones do not. Teflon tape is your friend. Do NOT over tighten.

par

Man, I went the total other way but it worked. By 'other way' I mean, I took the old sensors, completely removed the rubber sealent and drilled out the sensor, then I bought a set of 10k Sensors from Amazon (the stainless steel cylindrical ones) and glued them back in with Loctite Silicone seal. They work great but %#*@, I wish I had seen this post earlier...

Do the wires have polarity? Existing has 1 blk wire & 1 w/printing. New has 1 red & 1 blk wire. Which do I connect together?

@seanmaz

that really does not qualify as a question. You should make a guide out of that before it gets deleted https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/new

The nuts are held in the base with really flimsy plastic material. You likely accidentally pushed the nuts out, and they’re under the unit or rattling around in the base .

par

True. A couple will be underneath unit, fall right through. At least one will not. It is caught inside the unit. Had to take mine all apart. I put the nuts back in and heated the plastic and molded it to insure they wouldn't fall out again.
