I have a hustler raptor zero turn. Once it runs for a while & gets hot it shuts off. Not really trying to take it to the shop because I feel like it’s something so simple . Any have suggestions on what it could be?

Not knowing exactly what model you have, I would guess that you are having a fuel issue. It is possible that you are getting a vapor lock. The fuel evaporates when the fuel lines get to hot. Make sure that you route them away from the engine block etc. Also reevaluate your ignition system, make sure that it does not get to hot. Take a look at your spark plug and see if it burns the fuel okay. Lsst thing I can think off is make sure that your gas cap is vented. There should be little holes in it, so that it will not create a vacuum. I believe that craftsman uses gas caps with washers underneath to vent the tank. Use an older one, it works better. Check all your fuel lines and delivery system to make sure they are not clogged, bend or otherwise damaged. Good luck

I wish I could "call you in the morning" to thank you. I don't know if I ever would have thought of that...and I had already tried EVERYTHING else. Running great now... I really appreciate it!!

Thank you! I changed out the fuel filter to 75 micron and magic...ran like new!

Also, added Gumout to fuel cut my entire lawn without stalling once!!

Purchase a new carburetor for 30 bucks and be done with the problem, I did. Carburetors are cheap. Don’t rebuild, that will be 30 bucks if you do it yourself and you hope it works.

I had changed the gas line, fuel filter, spark plug, gas cap and carburetor. Nothing made a difference. Replaced ignition module and problem was solved!

First check fuel cap venting

Then Valve clearance.

Runs OK when cold. When hot, valves open due to thermal expansion and insufficient clearance. This causes loss of compression until engine cools.

Regards

How do you clean the fuel cap vent hole?

par

Also, what valve are you talking about?

Thanks (newbie)

If there is negative pressure in the tank (when you remove the cap air rushes in) get a new fuel cap.

The valve clearance adjustment relates to the fuel inlet valves and exhaust valves. Usually one of each per cylinder, The correct setting will be shown in the engine specification document or workshop manual.

Typically 0.005" on small single cylinder engines.

I had more than one problem. There is a fuel filter that looks like part of a ball point pen that is pushed into the gas tank outlet nozzle. I pulled it out with needlenose pliers and cleaned it. It ran much longer but died when it was warmed . Next I adjusted the valve lash. After 3 pulls it ran like it was trying to die, then ran great and after about five minutes, died. I am going to adjust them again tommorow. If you have fuel and your mower dies when it is warmer up, you are probably looking at the valve issue you see above; hot valves don't close fully because of lack of clearance. There may be something else worse on my mower going on. If I fix it, I will post the solution.

It's not the valves it's a fuel issue clean the carburetor with an air compressor or gum out
