Troubleshooting new Screen and waterlogging

Hi all,

I'm trying to troubleshoot what could be wrong so I'll spell it out step by step.

My partner has a series 3 42mm GPS only watch. She cracked the screen, I replaced it with a part bought in China. The new seal was a fraction too small over one corner and I told her not to get it wet.

Later, she jumped in a pool without realising and the watch stopped working straight away.

I lifted the screen up and there was water inside. I disconnected the battery, sprayed isopropyl alcohol inside, later hit it with a hair dryer for a while and left it with the screen open for 2 days. After that I rebooted it and it came back to life, unbelievable!

It stayed on the charger, working properly for 2 days until yesterday when I disconnected the screen to put a new seal on. I connected the screen back on and nothing, no sign of life. At one point it vibrated when I held down the button for a few seconds but it hasn't responded to any button pressing or rebooting since then. I've tried recharging, nothing.

I'm at a loss what to try next. Any ideas on what it could be?

I was pretty careful disconnecting and reconnecting the screen, could it be a broken cable maybe? Or is it possible the battery just upped and died due to the water coincidentally when I was doing the work?

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

Cheers, Ben

Update (12/12/2019)

So an update - After 3 days of nothing, just sitting on the charger unresponsive, we get home from an outing and the watch is beeping away, I guess like the find my watch function?

Except we haven't touched the watch app at all on the iPhone it's paired to. Still no screen though. I pressed the button and the beep stopped. I tried a hard reset and after a couple of minutes the beeping started again.

Is this indicative of anything, other than the watch is royally screwed?

Whats your skill level is it limited to changing screens or can you use a multi meter?

Skill level is pretty rudimentary - just what I've learned through YouTube. I haven't used a multi meter before but always willing to learn something new.

Thanks for not using rice LOL. If it worked before you disconnected the screen to put new seal in then it must be the screen or cable. If you get another screen maybe you will have success. Worth a try.
