Bottom icon bar not working after screen replacement

Hi, I replaced my cracked screen with the screen/digitizer from ifixit . There were no real instructions on how to place the ribbon cables from the screen back in the case so they don’t get squashed. I reassembled the screen and everything works ok except for the bottom row of icons (mail, message, safari) etc does not work when you touch them, the rest of the screen works fine. Any suggestions?

Hi @ecohen321

This problem is almost always caused by the replacement screen, either defective or not installed correctly. Here is what the cable fold should to look like:

It is also critical that the cables are tucked into the frame while the screen is glued into place. If they are pinched between the glass and frame, there will be touch screen problems.

If you feel that this was all done well, the issue is a defective screen and will need to be replaced.

P.S. in very rare cases this issue is caused by the cable not being plugged in all the way/connector damage - if you open the iPad to check the cabling, its worth checking the connectors as well

Jeff thanks for the reply I’m pretty sure they might be pinched in the glass and frame. the ifixit cables look different than your picture. They don’t have a covering over them I’ll try to see what I could do. Appreciate the help and picture
