Bent charging port - should I buy a $100 replacement keyboard case?
After a fall, the metal around my charging port got bent in (see the picture)
because the charging cable was plugged in and it hammered in a portion of the metal casing. The port works, you just have to fiddle with it quite a bit in order to make it connect.
I was thinking, is it worth it to buy the following replacement metal casing:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-B...
and transfer all the hardware into it?
Specifically, I have three doubts/questions:
- From the ebay listing, can you guys figure out whether they're selling the whole casing (back and front) or only the front/keyboard part?
- Does the ebay item linked above look to you 100% equivalent to the original Microsoft part (same metal alloy, same quality keys etc.)? If not, where can I find an adequate replacement (I didn't find the piece on ifixit)?
- Is the replacement really hard? I see the device is rated 1 out of 10 in ifixit's repairability rating, and I don't want to damage it further…
Thanks and all the best!
