Cannot get any home button to work

Hello guys, i’ve tried 3 home buttons off Ebay already, but it’s not the contacts of the lightning connector assembly, when i short them the phone reacts like a home button press. The curious thing is, when i test button outside of the phone and measure the 2 contacts with a multimeter, shouldn’t i get closed circuit beep? Because i get nothing at all. I don’t know how the Buttons work electronically and if it’s typical to get faulty ones. I’d appreciate any hints a lot!
