Hello!
I’ve had some issues with my iPhone 8 for quite a while. The microphones doesn’t work in voice memo, not in facetime and not when using speaker when calling. It works fine when doing “normal” calls and when recording with the camera both front and back
Any ideas why it doesn’t work as it should? bad ic hip?

The iPhone 8 doesn’t have a signature failure with the Audio IC but it is indeed possible. However, it could also be just discreet microphone issues.
There are 3 microphones in the iPhone.

Make sure you update your device to the latest version of iOS and then try to isolate which microphone is not working properly by trying each individual microphone with the related apps above. Check the microphone port holes for dust and debris which could be attenuating the sound.
If the issue affects more than one microphone, then it could be the Audio Codec IC on the logic board. Anything at the logic board level will require micro-soldering so you would need to find a repair shop that offers those services.
Has something happened to the phone prior to these issues appearing, such as a drop, repair attempt or contact with water?

Latest IOS is installed, and the phone has had no prior fixes. i can use the "hey siri" feature as well as front facing and back facing cameras with no issues. So if it is the logic board, how much could it cost? if you know.. are we talking 100s of dollars or?

I have the same issue with mine - the microphone works fine with Siri, Front and Rear facing video, but doesn’t work in calls on both speaker and earpiece, FaceTime & voice memos records a flat line and plays a cracking sound. I am thinking it is the bottom microphone that isn’t working, and am hoping it is not logic board.
As for history; the screen and back are cracked (bought it like this) particularly near the dock section on the back. However, everything else works fine (as far as I can tell) and I opened the phone up and all water damage indicators are white and the phone is mostly clean with little dust.
Have you found a solution yet? I have ordered a new replacement housing with parts so it comes with a new dock connector and mic so I will see if that works!
