Chest freezer stopped running for days now works

I have a chest freezer that’s had 5 years use. It’s 10 years old. Huge puddle on floor everything was defrosted even large meat items. So it had been off couple of days.Emptied it plugged back in and works again last few weeks. Don’t know if I can trust it to restock it. I haven’t cleaned motor. Why would this happen?
