MacBook doesn't power on at all

I got a Macbook Air from my cousin, she explained that if I could fix it I could keep it. So I tried some of the key combinations to power it on, tried unplugging the battery and powering it on with just the power adapter, tried alot and nothing worked so I thought it was the battery due to its swelling. I replaced the battery and it still doesn’t power on. There are no fans, no sounds, nothing. It doesn’t power on but does charge. Any ideas or am I screwed?

Does the light on the power adapter come on when you plug it in? Is there any sign of life such as a fan spin at all?

par

@executablefiles There's no fan spin at all but the light on the power adapter does come on when its plugged in.

@Lodi I see. That might mean there is a logic board issue with it then since there's usually some sign of life when you turn it on with it drawing power. Someone else will probably have to ask more in depth questions as I'm not very good at diagnosing a logic board issue.

@executablefiles %#*@, that's the answer I was hoping not to hear. I'll wait for some other people to ask questions also so I know exactly what it is wrong with it.

Has it ever had liquid spilled on it

@lodidoesstuff start with something like this:

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

The System Management Controller (SMC) is a chip on the logic board that controls all power functions. If the computer is experiencing any power issue, such as not starting up, not displaying video, sleep issues, or fan noise issues, resetting SMC may resolve it. To reset SMC:

1. If computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shut Down from the Apple () menu.

2. Connect power adapter to computer and to a working power source.

3. On built-in keyboard, press (left-side) Shift-Control-Option along with power button just once. Important: Use Shift-Control-Option keys on left side of keyboard.

Note: When the LED on the MagSafe connector is orange/amber, resetting the SMC will change it to green for a few seconds, indicating that SMC was correctly reset.

4. Wait 5 seconds and press power button to start computer. Note: If bottom case is removed, you can alternately reset SMC by disconnecting both power adapter and main battery, and holding down power button for 5 seconds.

I've tried this before and it didn't work, I tried it again with your steps and it didn't work so I'm sure resetting the SMC isn't gonna fix it.

@lodidoesstuff just needed to start somewhere since "tried alot and nothing worked so" is not very descriptive :-) Now we all are at least on the same page in the same book. Let's find out what's going on
