My camera gives me the "lens error" and shuts down.

One of my classmates dropped class camera face down on the lens. It damaged the sides of the lens and thats it physically from what you can see. When you turn on the camera, you can hear the lens clicked like its trying to come out. Then the camera gives me the “lens error. Restart camera/ Automatic shut down” and thats it. After trying anything that came to my head I just took it apart. I got to the inside of the lens but when I shake it, something rattles. Is that normal? Should we just get a new lens or camera?
