Display blacks out, high pitched noise that changes with brightness

As the title states, the iPad’s screen sometimes stays black or goes black while using it. Turning off the device and restarting it after a minute usually gets the screen back to live, and most of the time it dies while waking it up from sleep.

There’s also a really nasty high-pitched noise/ whining sound that changes when i change the screen brightness (brighter=higher and vice versa). It only appears sometimes though.

I do suspect some sort of backlight resistor that isn’t working correctly. Has anyone ever had this problem and knows if this would be fixed by a new display? Or would i need to have the mainboard fixed? A board-level repair seems impossible, as there are no shops that offer it in the entire EU.
