iMac 2,4 24" faulty 3 leds, no boot but fans spins

Hi everybody!

After reading a bunch of related pages about my iMac'problem, I'm trying to post to get information about it...

First of all, sorry for my "beginning english", i'm not use to write that language.

Here it goes:

My 2,4ghz iMac Intel 24" EMC 2134 Model N°: A1225 do not boot.

I bought it as faulty and opened it looking for more information.

It have the three leds so I suspected a bad communication between video card and lcd.

Videocard (HD2600) was changed for a new one (furnished by an friendly AC) with no change.

I thought it was a logic board problem but wich one?

I don't think that apple'hardware is so fragil (even if I had in my "atelier" a few ones for badcaps exchange) and still point a hardware mess on the logic board.

Any help or advise is welcome: I will post a guide on this machine (even if it do not run by the moment!

Best regards,

Titi

Hello ABCellars,

I did try the Ram test with unit from my 2,16 iMac and this gave no change:

The logic board power up for 3-4 seconds then shut down and power up again. No screen, gans spins up sometimes...

Mouse seems to receive power (red light of the mighty) but keyboard don't work : no reaction with pram reset...

I really don't figure what is the problem: seems to come from the logic board...

It sounds like you are having a problem with your RAM. Try taking out all the RAM and then attempt to boot. The iMac should beep. If it doesn't beep there is more than likely logic board problems. Power it down. Put 1 stick of RAM in and try to boot. If it boots good you are getting somewhere. Whether it boots or not power it down. Move the stick of RAM into the other slot and again try to boot etc... Do this process until you have tested both sticks of RAM and both RAM slots.

It sounds like you may have RAM that is seated improperly or either a bad stick of RAM or a bad RAM slot. You will be able to determine what is good and what is bad through the process I mentioned.

Just forgot to add: I've tried with external monitor with no change, the screen (ext.) won't show anything...

Did it beep when you attempted to boot it with no RAM?

no beep if no ram....

I saw in a another post of this excellent site the following comment:

"LED #1 + LED #2 + LED #3 + LED #4 = Power available, system is powered on, video card found, and internal LCD found."

Logically, my problem seems to be that no internal lcd is found => bad communication with lcd.

I'ce inspected the cables but no sign of cuts...
