iPad mini keyboard problem

I have an iPad mini 3 generation, and the keyboard goes crazy every time I enter something. Can I swap it with another older model? I don't want to crack the screen. Thanks.

Keyboard? You said screen

The on-screen keyboard is software, you can't take it out of the device.
