How can I fix the charging port to iPod nano 7th generation?

Somehow my iPod won’t charge anymore. Just one day it so happened to stop charging. I’ve tried cleaning it. It’s completely dead. I got lots of music on there. I want to see what I can do?

Hi

Have you tried cleaning the charging port with a sewing needle as everyone I have tried to clean a charging port with anything else it never worked

Sadly if there is still nothing you will have to replace the port which requires a full tare down of the device but it’s quite rare for that to happen

Hopefully I answered your question

Give me a shout if you need any more help:)

Thanks

I have a similar problem. The charging port seems to be loose. The device will charge if I firmly hold the cable.....I'm just starting to investigate. Seems like I need to explore what a "full tear down" means.

A full teardown means to take the device to its bare parts

Had same issue. Need to replace the charging port.

Is there any guide to replace it? The guide does not seem to include replacing the charging port.

@mendelsp I haven't had any luck locating a guide for replacing the lightning port, but from looking around it may be doable with a moderate amount of soldering skills. Really, once you have the motherboard out of the case, you have full access to the port and could then proceed to unsolder the old port and solder in a replacement. They seem to be pretty easy to find; here's one that came up on my cursory search; you can undoubtedly find that part in other places like Amazon, eBay and AliExpress.

As I mentioned, the only guide you really need is the Logic Board Assembly Replacement guide here on iFixit.

After that it's going to take a little common sense and maybe some ingenuity to replace that port. I'd start with the grounding tab; use either a solder vacuum or solder wick to clean out the solder from that first.

After that you'll need to unsolder the 10 pins and at that point the connector should come off.

Of course, you'd probably have a lot of grateful admirers if you took pictures along the way and made your own guide for that job. You can start with the logic board guide as the basis then all you have to do is document the actual soldering.
