Battery and screen replacement

Is there a guide to replace the battery and screen at the same time? Or how do I combine both guides to make sure I don't miss any steps?

Hi Emy,

As @tomchai mentioned, you do have to take off the screen anyway to replace the battery so you're most of the way there. To do both, here's the plan.

  1. Follow the screen replacement guide all the way through.

  2. Pull up the battery replacement guide and jump ahead to step 20, the lower speaker replacement step.

The only difference between the screen replacement guide and the first 19 steps of the battery guide is that the screen guide has the additional instructions for removing the earpiece/front sensor assembly that you'll need to move to the replacement screen in order to keep your Face ID function.

Following those instructions should get you right where you want to be. If you run into problems, be sure to ask for help; after all, that's the whole point of this site!

Best of luck with your repair.

Just a couple more thoughts for you on your repair.

In addition to the battery adhesives, be sure to buy the replacement adhesive for the screen ahead of time. I usually get a couple; they're not expensive and you'll have an extra on hand in case something goes wrong. I know I've messed up a couple of them on my first try. Be thorough in cleaning the old adhesive from the frame; the better a job you do, the more likely you'll get a good seal and return the phone to being mostly waterproof.

In pulling out the old battery adhesive, I've found it works best for me to roll it up on a pair of tweezers as you go. Pull it out as straight as possible; the higher you raise it the more likely it is to break before you get to the end. If it does break, there'll usually be a little bit left poking out that you can grab if you're quick; it will tend to retract back under the battery if you wait.

Let us know how it goes!

You need to take the screen off to get to the battery anyway.

What you actually need to pay attention is how to fit the guides with the repair parts you got. Repair parts may be incomplete and may need some parts transplanted from your original phone to work properly, which may or may not be covered in the guides.
