Heatsink came off CPU cooler

I am having trouble with a laptop. It appears to be overheating and shutting down. I removed the back cover and noticed the heat pipe just fell off the CPU cooler. Does this mean I need a whole new CPU cooler? Or do you just attach the pipe back to the cooler somehow? TIA

A friend's laptop had this problem too, and I attempted to fix it with thermal glue. I only found out afterwards that the glue I bought wasn't very good quality, and it only solved the issue for light work (internet browsing, office suite usage, etc) but not for more CPU or GPU-intensive loads (like gaming, even for 2D games that were 100% fine before). Swapping the whole heatsink-heatpipe assembly is probably going to be my next attempt at a solution.

Just remove the old thermal paste, and put new CPU Thermal paste, and make sure the heat sink is well clipped on CPU.

That pipe doesn't "clip in " to anything. I checked on YouTube and only found two videos that cpu cooler comes off. Both are by undoing the screws that hold it to the cpu and off as one piece, or gpu whichever component that is cooling.
