iPhone xs - no display after display replacement

Hey there, I was wondering if anyone has run into this situation before?

symptoms: display would flicker and eventually stopped showing an image. touch input would work (could turn on flashlight from lockscreen) and could accept calls

sounds like display issue right?

the iphone battery has since drained. after replacing the display, attempting the power on the device does not work. plugging in the phone, the charge sounds does play but I do not get the battery icon you would expect when plugging in the phone when it has 0 charge

am I donezo? Any and all troubleshooting steps are welcome

ive also previously had slight issues with the power button being a bit wonky, but for the last year or so that has not been an issue

update: the phone has since charged up fully and is now booting but no display or touch (phone does appear to be reacting to plugging and unplugging the phone and toggling the vibration toggle)

Did you disconnect the battery before working on the phone? If not you may have blown the backlight filters. Hold the phone under a light or shine a torch on the screen at an angle and see if you see anything on the screen.

Oops, they went to OLED as of the iPhone X, so there's no backlight on Anthony's XS.

Hi Anthony,

As @timtomissus suggested, you'll want to open the phone back up and double check your work. Sometimes those long FPC connectors feel like they're connected but still need a bit of fiddling to get them 100% seated. Check the motherboard connector and the cable connector for any bent or broken pins, then clean both sides with some 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol.

If it still doesn't work after that, you might try verifying whether the old screen still works or not. If it does, you may have a defective replacement; it happens on occasion.
