Nintendo 3DS XL Streetpass not working after repair

I recently repaired my Nintendo 3DS XL top screen, and took it the day after to my friend's place so we could play together. I noticed that the whole time we were playing, Streetpass didn't activate for either of us. Both of our 3DS showed that Streetpass was active and had a "signal." We both tried deleting the others mii profile from the plaza, but that didn't work either. I think there might have been something that I knocked or pushed over inside of the 3DS that might be preventing Streetpass from working properly. Anybody know what component this might be, or if its not a motherboard issue, what can I do to fix this?

How long was it since the last time you streetpassed? You can only tag each person once every 8hrs as far as I can tell. Also, were they in sleep mode together for a few minutes?

@darthmango From the repair it took about 2 days to fix, so I know it was more enough time for streetpass to refresh itself. We did put our 3DS's in sleep mode for a bit but still nothing happened. We each also tried deleting the others' Mii profile from our streetpass plaza, but nada.

@gordon70979 You could check the wifi card, though I'm not sure streetpass even uses it. I'm guessing the 3ds's can't detect each other, but I have no clue what to do about it

@darthmango I'm probably going to go to another friend and see if we can make it work. If not I'll try resetting it and see what I can do from there. If the 3DS doesn't use the wifi card for streetpass, do you know what component might be used?

Fixed the issue myself, seemed to be the software and not anything internal.

  1. Go into Mii maker, make a temporary placeholder mii from scratch (looks don't matter just make something new).
  2. Go into Streetpass Mii Plaza software and change your mii into the placeholder (Navigate to your current mii, press A, Scroll down to mii settings and select it, Click on change mii, choose your temporary placeholder mii.)

You don't need to change any of the other options if it asks you to.

Use that temporary mii until you get a streetpass, after the streetpass you can change your mii back.

After I did this process, some of my puzzle swap panels disappeared. If this is the case for you, don't worry. Navigate to the settings in Mii Plaza, turn off streetpass and spotpass, then turn them both back on again. Afterwards, close the software and just close your 3DS (if you have a 2DS, put it on sleep mode) for about 10-20 minutes and then check your notifications software to see if you got a Puzzle Swap notification. Afterwards, you can launch the software from the notification and all your puzzle swap panels should be back.

If this still doesn't work and you know the person you are trying to Streetpass with, have them delete your Mii from their Streetpass Plaza and then give 24 hrs for both consoles to recognize a new interaction with that user.
