What is the Thin Soft Black Tape used inside the Ear-Cup?

While cleaning my headphones of ear-wax, I was forced to remove this tape to get to the silver microphone piece inside the headphone. The tape was unusable and could not be put back on.

What is this tape, What does it do, Is it necessary for the safe function of the headphones, and where can I buy more of it to replace what I had to remove.

I am afraid of using my headphones without it because I don't want to risk damaging them in any way. I have tested the "Tesla" tape available here, but I do not believe it is the same thing. It caused issues with the sound of the headphones.

@dispatchcr97871 post some pictures of what tape you are referring to. It could be some sort of EM tape but we need to see where it is located and what it looks like. also very your headphone make and model for us.

@oldturkey03 I've added an image to the post displaying the tape in question.

Hi

From what I know that tape isn’t necessary as it’s just really used to minimise vibrations

If you wanted you could use a small thin piece of sponge

Hopefully this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)

From my experience it's a thin fabric tape, but I've never tried finding replacement. I'd be tempted to cut the end off a fabric Band-Aid and use that; it seems very close in texture and flexibility and is quite sticky.

@dadibrokeit

That’s a good idea!

@dadibrokeit

I'd never even thought of something like that!

They're very similar textures though, So I might give that a shot actually! Great idea, Thanks a bunch!
