Good afternoon,

A malfunctioning (is it I or l? i or L?) is never good. depending on availability of parts, you may be able to find a replacement keyboard.

I am curious, what did you do (or what happened) to cause a failed key?

Good luck.

In terms of how to teardown the device, ifixit has no guides. I had a similar problem when i had to replace a stone dead battery on an S730 early last year. So, the best thing you can do is to take out screws until you reach it, document the process on your currently functioning device and then, so no one else has to suffer, upload the process here (no images are even required). But yeah, my advice is to first take apart the laptop, start by removing the battery, then speakers and mobo (then fans if they aren't already attached), and then hopefully there are some screws you can remove after peeling back the backlight layer carefully (if your laptop is equipped with that, i know my thinkpad T480 daily is not).
