Garmin watch doest charge and power on

Hi everyone!

Got a Fenix 5 plus for around 2.5 years, lately my watch froze twice and turned itself off, and now it is not turning on.

things I tried :

Hard reset (and also when connected), cleaning the charging port, using another charging cable, switching the charger, trying to charge from a computer and nothing worked.

Sometimes when I turn it on it shows the starting logo and then dies.

After that I thought it would be the battery so I got one and replaced it but its still the same.

This is what happens when Im trying to turn it on. The Amps going to around 0.2 and then back to 0.00.

Anyone has an idea what can the problem be? Thanks

Hello, I have exactly the same problem with my second-hand Fenix 5. Did you manage to figure this problem out?

Since you already swapped the battery, you can rule out a dead cell. That 0.2A spike dropping straight to 0.00A is the power management chip tripping a safety shutoff to protect the board.

When you get the logo for a second and then an instant drop to zero, it's almost always a hardware short on the mainboard or liquid damage that crept past the button seals over time. Sweat and water get in there after a couple years, corrode a trace, and cause those exact freezes before total shutdown. It could also be a dead memory chip failing right when the OS tries to boot up.

Since you've already had it open, pull the board back out and check it closely under a bright light. Look for tiny green or white corrosion spots or any burnt component near the power IC or ribbon connectors. Scrubbing the board with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush might clean off a short if you're lucky.

Otherwise the board is toast. You can try reaching out to Garmin support anyway—even out of warranty and opened, they usually let you trade in dead units for a refurbished one at a decent discount.
