Why doesn´t my headphone mic work?

The phone mic works fine until I plug in my headphones. Then I can hear incoming calls but the mic is dead. I have to unplug the headphones to answer the call.

Update (06/30/23)

Thanks. I've tried three different headphones (wired) and the same thing: I can hear the person talking but they cannot hear me until I unplug the jack. I've used wireless headphones and they work perfectly, so I am assuming there is something physical wrong with the jack. I suppose that answers my question, but I was wondering if there was a setting I was missing, an inadvertent mute setting in the software or something.

@kensharpe77490 check your headphones in another device first. That way we can rule it out (or in) as the problem.

@kensharpe77490 not that I've found a software solution. I would maybe try a reset and see if that fixes it. Here is what Samsung suggest

Same problem here: microphone in the headphones stopped working. Also, headphones with buttons that are used to mute calls, or to fast forward to the next song also stopped working. I don't think this is a hardware issue, most likely Samsung software updated problem. Never buying Samsung again, products suck big time.

The only setting that could affect the mic would be the mute button in whatever phone app you are using.

You could try using Bluetooh earbuds and if you don't have any problem with your mic while using those then yes the jack is the likely culprit.

Check the jack to make sure there's no buildup of lint or dust which could be impeding the jack from making a connection with the mic line. If it looks clean then a jack replacement might be in order. Personally I would do a soft reset first and if that doesn't work do a hard reset (after backing up your data first of course) to see if that fixes the issue.
