on/off (x) button turns on only after hard push

its not a new controller, it was given to me by my friend. idk if its the thing with every xbox controller or this one in particular, since i was using dualshock 4 before, on which on/off (ps) button turned the device on instantly. my friend said it was like that since they bought it.
