Trackpad doesn't work but the keyboard works fine

I had a dying battery that I replaced last week. After that, the trackpad doesn't work.

Replaced trackpad cable and the trackpad itself with a known working one. Reset, SMC/PVRAM and the Apple diagnostics doesn't detect any issues at all. Still no luck getting the trackpad to work.

Keyboard works absolutely fine without any issues though. What options do I have to fix this?

The fact that you've replaced the cable and the trackpad with known-good replacements and are still getting nothing is not a good sign. That would seem to indicate a fault somewhere on the main logic board. It might be worth inspecting the trackpad cable connector on the logic board for signs of damage. It might also be a good idea to test with an external mouse to see if that is able to work. Good luck!

Thank you! My external magic mouse works just fine, no issues there. I quickly swapped a donor motherboard to check if the fault lies in this one. Turns out, trackpad doesn't want to work with it either. I am super confused at this moment :)

Sounds like it might be a good idea to try a different replacement trackpad and cable. Might be an unlucky coincidence with bad testing parts. Either that or there is another issue causing the trackpad to not function. Is it possible another component could be pressing up on the trackpad or cable or damaging it when it's installed?

Also, it's pretty easy for the trackpad cable to get disconnected from the motherboard side. It would be worth checking that connecting isn't becoming disconnected when the bracket is installed on top of it (sometimes this pushes the cable and disconnects it)

Let’s double check things. Does the trackpad click when you press the bottom edge (middle)? Does the pointer move as you move your finger across?

If the click is not present you’ll need to adjust the switch contact point that’s the setscrew on the bottom edge middle. Give it a half turn contra-clockwise, don’t go to far as it’s hard to put back in!

If the hardware report shows the trackpad you may need to reinstall the OS as Apple did update the trackpad firmware.
