If your PS3 is shutting off by itself after displaying a flashing green light, there could be several potential causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to identify and fix the problem:

  1. Check for overheating:
    • Ensure that your PS3 is placed in a well-ventilated area with plenty of space around it. Overheating can cause the console to shut down to prevent damage.
    • Clean the console's vents and fans to remove dust and debris, which can obstruct airflow.
  2. Power supply issues:
    • Try using a different power cable and power outlet to rule out any problems with the power source.
    • If you have a spare compatible power supply unit (PSU), you can try swapping it to see if that resolves the issue.
  3. Inspect the hard drive:
    • Sometimes, a faulty hard drive can cause power issues. Remove the hard drive, then turn on the PS3 to see if it stays on (you'll see an error message about missing storage). If it stays on, the hard drive may be the problem.
  4. Test with minimal connections:
    • Disconnect all peripherals and accessories (controllers, USB devices, etc.) and try turning on the PS3 with only the power cable connected. This can help identify if a connected device is causing the issue.
  5. Safe Mode:
    • Boot your PS3 into Safe Mode by holding down the power button until you hear two beeps. This will initiate Safe Mode. From there, you can try options like "Restore File System" or "Rebuild Database" to see if it resolves the problem.
  6. Test a different TV or monitor:
    • It's possible that the issue is related to your display. Try connecting your PS3 to a different TV or monitor to see if the problem persists.
  7. Check for loose internal connections:
    • If you're comfortable with disassembling your PS3, you can open it up and check for loose or disconnected cables and connections, especially around the power supply unit.
  8. Professional repair:
    • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem within your PS3, such as a malfunctioning power supply unit or motherboard. In this case, it may be necessary to seek professional repair or consider replacing the console.
