Can my s20 work without the display?

I have a galaxy s20 that works perfectly, or it would if the display wasn't all fubar. Where i live the repair is more expensive than a new phone (literally)

I am trying to make little gaming device similar to this and i want to know if I can get rid of the broken screen and use an external display via usbc to usbc. Would it work without the original display?

I could leave the broken screen on the phone, but it never turns of, keeps flickering, so it drains the battery way faster than it should.

It's a clever idea and I don't see why not. Most phones will work just fine with no display. Agree that you may need to figure out some workarounds when it comes to the PIN or password since accessory connection is usually disabled until the device is unlocked, but I think it's worth tinkering with.

@rafawel The S20 does support video out. So you should be able to do that, by utilizing a USB_C to HDMI adapter. Something like this Example only. Now you probably can't do this when you have some sort of lock pattern etc. on your phone.

I did unlock it with an usb hub, a keyboard, and a TV as display. I could remove the display flex cable from the Soc while connected on the hub to test it, but I kinda unsure, I'm afraid of frying it

@rafaelg you are fully vested now :-) It either works or it does not. Don't remove anything while it is connected. You are better of to disconnect your phone first, power off and then disconnect. See what happens. It can't fry if it does not have power

@oldturkey03 Just tested, it does in fact works, not only without the display, but also the four cameras, the charging coil, the microphone and the speakers, the only downside is the whole back of the screen works as a heat sink, on the plus side I can make my own. Thank-you for the answers.

@rafaelg just like the video you linked to. You will need to do some fabrication in order to accomplish what you want it to do. Best of luck to you and let us know what the finished "product" looks like!
