My batteries appear dead after less than a year of use
My batteries appear dead after less than a year of use. Is this usual? What is a spunger? Will a paper clip do the same?

This is a spudger. I would imagine a paper clip would probably work just fine as a substitute, just be careful not to scuff the plastic.

I tried a paper clip nd can’t seem to get it to open
@davidfourn29653 Maybe try a guitar pick or similar. You may be able to use a knife but you might scratch it up a bit.
