Sylvania VCR problems recording DVC845E

My VCR was working fine. Now it stops recording before finished, the red light blinks which the manual says is because the recording is paused but I didn't pause it. I opened it and found a loose roller and returned it where it belongs. Also the playback is fuzzy and audio is distorted (either too fast or too slow). I hope you can help, and thanks in advance.

@arenard Wobbly audio sounds like ''''a issue with the VCR tape path. Could be anything from a sticky tape to anything related with your rollers :-) We would need to see where it came off of. Post some good pictures of that as well as the rest of this with your Question. that way we can see what you see. I believe that the issue is related to how the tape goes through your machine and onto the rotating head drum. Normally I would suggest you clean those, which you want to do anyway. You will need to clean the rotating head and the audio head for sure. For that, you would need some +90 % isopropyl alcohol and some cotton swabs. Wet the cotton applicators with the alcohol and and then clean the areas where the tape touches the heads with it. Do that a couple of times until the cotton swabs stay clean after you run them across those components.

While you are working on your VCR check for any belts that may have stretched or are starting to look worn. You may need to replace those.

The other part to pay particular attention to is the capstan and the pinch roller. The capstan is responsible for ensuring that the tape movement has the proper tension and direction as it moves across the audio and video heads. So, if the capstan is dirty or the capstan rod is dirty, bend etc, your tape will not move properly along the heads which could cause issues like the ones you described.

To check the alignments after the cleaning and inspection of all the parts, use the Sylvania MK 12.5 Deck Mechansim Section And Alignement Procedures. To work on your unit as whole i.e. disassembly etc. use the Sylvania DVC845E Service Manual

Remember that pictures speak a thousand words. Anything that looks odd, your original roller issue :-) as well as the capstan etc are always good to look at. Ajout d'images à une question existante

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I have first an Internet problem and now a phone problem so this will probably be delayed a little bit. I don't have a cell phone so I cannot take a picture until I find someone that can come here and do that for me.

The one roller that was loose, there is only one spindle that it fits onto and also the tape will insert. First I found it loose and replaced it. Later on when I opened it again the roller was off the spindle again!! It does make sense that it is that roller though and I should clean it which just might work.
