Gameboy DMG no sound, logo stuck, failed booting

I have a gameboy dmg 01

The red LED can turn on, but there is no sound and the black stripe logo appears, not the Nintendo writing/logo, and when the game cart is installed it doesn't work.

how to fix it?

Does the cartridge work in a different DMG? It may be dirty, or the cartridge reader on the gameboy might be dirty. If I were you I would give the board and contacts a good cleaning with isopropyl alcohol.

As for the sound, first I would check the headphone jack. If there is corrosion that may cause your issue as the signal for the audio is bright through that before being sent over to the speaker. If it’s corroded then it may not be able to get past the headphone jack. I would also clean that and any other corrosion on the board with isopropyl alcohol.

If that doesn’t work for the sound, then I would replace the capacitors and the speaker. I get my replacement parts from a store called Handheld Legend, but I’m sure there’s many places to get them. I would replace the capacitors anyway even if that’s not causing the issues with the sound as it’s a good quality of life upgrade and will make your gameboy last longer, and it’s fairly easy if you know how to solder.

Hope that helps. If it doesn’t, then please send a picture of the board and I’ll see if I can see anything to cause the issue.

Have a great day!

My DMG also failed to boot, the cartridge was cleaned but it still doesn't work, it just gets stuck on the Nintendo logo, sometimes the black stripe logo

even though the cartridge can be used in my other DMG units

To solve the sound problem, I haven't replaced the capacitor yet, I will order spare parts first, thank you for the solution

I remember seeing something once about a gameboy pocket that had a similar boot issue and it was a problem with a broken trace connecting to the contrast potentiometer. I know it's a different model of gameboy but they're pretty similar so you may want to look into that.

Also I forgot to mention that your speaker should have continuity between + and -. Check that before you buy any replacement parts.

I would still replace the capacitors though even if the speaker is bad

Hope this helps!
