Have you tried resetting it?

It's the average troubleshoot for an iPod Nano, you may follow the instructions here:

http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_r...

First, check if the "hold" lever on the top of your device is working and in the right position, then, follow the Five R. Reset, retry, restart, reinstall and restore, that means:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Then reload all the music you've got.

Also, you may have to know, since you obviously missed, that your iPod got some months ago a recall because, in time, the internal battery got issues, such as losing charge, bulging, overheating (thus disrupting stuff inside your logic board) and even giving off small sparks.

You may follow this page here:

http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_re...

Print it and check to an Apple Store to see if you're eligible for a free repair/replacement. I got mine replaced, for example.

You should also check the serial number on the site also, and then you may check with an AASP or Apple.

If the damage is not water related (that would instantly void the warranty, the device should not have fallen in water, ever) and if it shows up in the number of the eligible devices, they should change it for free.

Also, I hope you didn't bang, drop or damaged it too badly. If it just wore out to death, bring it to an Apple Store with the recall page, they should fix it.
