2015 MBP 15" Logic Board connectors are slightly different why?

Hello all,

I received a donor logic board from my frieds Mid 2015 15" MBP. Both boards are (IG) compatible. After removing the old board, I replaced it with the donor board, and everything fits perfectly. However, there is a small issue with the trackpad connector and the card reader board flex cable connector.

Old board Trackpad connector is small and the Card reader connector is big

Both configuration are identical. i7 | 2.2Ghz | 16GB | Intel irish pro graphic

I'm really confused right now, and I need to figure this out. Hoping for some help.

@itsmeapple can you give us the 820-xxxx numbers on your boards? Let's see what we got going on here.

@oldturkey03 Hi, 820-00138-A this is the donor board number. my original board has a slightly different number 820-3662-A

@itsmeapple logic board number for 820-3662-A relates to a MacBook Pro 15" A1398 Late 2013/2014. Logic board number 820-00138-A for a MacBook Pro 15" A1398 2015 (IG) I just verified with the schematics that these connectors are different. Unless you replace the trackpad etc. as well, you can't connect those components to your replacement board.

@itsmeapple I totally understand your confusion and I am with you on that. All I can say is that I exclusively go by the logic board numbers and compare the connectors, schematic or whatever the current issue maybe. In the case of your boards, the connectors are definitely different.

Thank you for understanding :) @oldturkey03 So what if i get the 2015 Trackpad and swap it? will it sit correctly and function?

U have mentioned this above but i just want to make sure if this is possible?

@itsmeapple I never had to interchange those parts so I really can't answer this. I wonder if @livfe has done a switch like this.
